National Parks

Ireland’s National Parks are as Varied and Unique as Their Country

Although Ireland is a relatively small country (slightly smaller than U.S. state South Carolina), there are six national parks on the isle of Eire, all located in the Republic. All are as varied, beautiful and unique as their country. Ireland’s national parks range from the hauntingly alluring mountain wilderness in north western County Donegal, to the surreal bogs on the Atlantic western seaboard of County Mayo.

The parks feature everything from the remarkable limestone pavement in the wilds of central Mayo, to the sweet heather-clad landscapes and mountains of northwest County Galway.

Visitors will marvel at parks with the highest mountain peaks in all of Ireland, the fast-flowing streams descending into the clear deep lakes of the wooded valleys, and the lowlands of Eire’s eastern coast along the Irish Sea south of Dublin.

There’s everything nature-lovers would want and more…lush woodlands, stunning coastlands, magnificent cliffs, majestic mountains, dazzling waterfalls, rivers, streams, fens, and loughs (lakes).

Ireland’s National Parks also offer stone paved lunar-like landscapes, graceful grasslands,  and amazing wildlife.

Some of Ireland’s national parks even include impressive estates, striking castles, a 19th century mansion, and a lodge with tea rooms.

There are nature trails and guided walks galore, or grab a ride on a jaunty cab (horse-drawn carriage), or minibus.

And Killarney National Park deserves separate mention for its location and having all the many, varied, and beautiful park features….
